DBT-BIOINFORMATICS INFRASTRUCTURE FACILITY:
Biotechnology department has yet another achievement with recognition conferred on the department as Bioinformatics
Infrastructure Facility by Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India. Bioinformatics a new realm in life science has
taken giant strides in integrating deluge of biological science data through computational tools and it is enhancing biological
research activity. The main aim of establishment of this facility is Biology Teaching using Bioinformatics Tools (BTBI).
Currently BIF centre is catering to diversified needs to students, trainees & faculty members by conducting workshops,
conferences, hands-on training. These ventures have indeed helped to publish research papers, submission of databases
which are available at public domain, presentation of papers at national and international conferences.
The following databases have been prepared which are available in the public domain (www.bicmlacw.org).
1. Phytomellitus database
2. Phytohelminthes database
3. Bamboo infoline
Our researchers have been using the bioinformatics software procured under DBT-BIF centre for integrating wet lab
research with dry lab validation and able to bringout meaningful interpretation of research work at a faster pace
Biotechnology Finishing School
There is a great dearth of skilled and trained resources in the industry of biotechnology.
Therefore it has become pertinent to provide hands-on training and requisite skills and knowledge to meet the
growing industrial demands that will bridge the gap between industry and academia. Envisaging the urgency to address
this issue Govt. of Karnataka initiated a unique program of “Biotechnology Finishing School”.
It is a matter of great pride that our college has been selected by IT-BT Dept. of Govt.
of Karnataka as one of the 12 Biotechnology Finishing Schools in Karnataka.
The Dept. of IT-BT, Govt. of Karnataka called for application to start Biotechnology Finishing School,
with an objective to meet the need of Biotech Industries in the State who have repeatedly represented to the
Government that there is a severe shortage of Industry-ready Graduates and Post Graduates to meet the growing demand of the
Biotech Industries.
The academic institution will train the students for six months for intense industrial training for internship of specific
thrust area (MLACW has chosen Bioinformatics and drug design and Pre-clinical, clinical Research and data management) through guest
lectures and practical skills and internship at the industry which will be for duration of six months
